Personal Information Crusade

Suni Munshani, CEO of Protegrity

Who is willing to join the crusade to help take back control of your personal information?

Here’s the idea:

You know how the Nature Conservancy purchases environmentally sensitive land from private owners in order to prevent it from being developed for commercial purposes? What if consumers could create a similar organization to establish a fund to purchase customer information from companies winding down or looking to sell off that data as part of bankruptcy proceedings or acquisitions?

Besides destroying the acquired data, this “Nature Conservancy for Consumer Data” could also serve as a platform for teaching businesses how to change their mindset and realize they are not “owners” of customer data that must be monetized, but rather “custodians” charged with protecting it.

Is that something you would support? Why or why not?

Please share your ideas in the comments below.

Thank you for your input.

  1. Sir,

While *I* personally feel you are stating the obvious, I equally suspect you will get roughed up as a lunatic along the path.

Meanwhile defense in depth includes using multiple & competing emails (outlook, Gmail) & private. Order magazines you wouldn’t possibly read. Trade addresses with a far away buddy for some loyalty programs.

In other words divide and pollute while we re take our Privacy.

  2. brilliant, let’s get this train moving
